The Les Miserables film soundtrack is the first cast recording to hit No.1 on the UK and Ireland album chart in 16 years. The last movie musical to reach the top of the charts was the Evita film soundtrack, from the motion picture starring Madonna in 1997.
Les Miserables has beat off competition from the likes of Emeli Sande and Jake Bugg to reach number 1!
Anne Hathaway, who stars as 'Fantine' in Tom Hooper's Oscar-nominated film adaptation of the Les Miserables musical, has also reached No. 22 in the UK's Top 40 songs with I Dreamed A Dream.
Last month, 'Les Miserables: Highlights From the Motion Picture Soundtrack' reached No. 1 on the Soundtracks chart, selling 43,000 in less than three full days on sale.
