Theatre Gossip: Spice Girls musical Viva Forever facing axe?

According to the Daily Star, the new Spice Girls musical is facing the axe due to poor ticket sales.Viva Forever!'s run on the West End could end since many performances have empty seats. The Daily Star claims that the theatre show, written by Jennifer Saunders, is usually only three-quarters full. Please remember that nothing has yet been confirmed.

Viva Forever! didn't have much luck on press night as the critics wrote terrible reviews and Victoria Beckham turned up late and chose to sit away from her former band-mates. A spokeswoman for producer Judy Craymer said: "The West End takes a dip this time of year. But the show is doing really well."

Viva Forever! is a romantic comedy that tells the story of a family thrown into chaos, as Viva and her three best friends get swept up in a TV talent show where stars are born and dreams are shattered.

Viva, Lauren (played by Sally Ann Triplett) and their closest friends see their lives and beliefs turned upside-down by the relentless process of the talent show during which Viva is forced to leave her friends behind and face the reality of fame. Lauren feels vulnerable fearing that their relationship is in jeopardy and her adopted daughter may be lost forever in the fickle world of celebrity, as highlighted by one of the female judges who lives in constant fear of the spotlight fading. As they all confront the bitter reality of fame they re-evaluate their lives and loves and discover who they really are.
