"Don Lockwood is a silent movies star with everything he could want - fame, adulation and even a well-publicised ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont. But Hollywood is about to change forever. There is rumour in the studio of a new kind of film, where the actors actually talk… and sing... and dance."
Singin' In The Rain is two hours and forty minutes of nice, harmless fun. The musical is a timeless classic and appeals to all the family... both old and young. Singin' In The Rain will leave you feeling inspired and resisting the temptation to tap dance your way home.
The cast are superb. Adam Cooper leads the cast well as Don Lockwood and Daniel Crossley is excellent as Cosmo Brown, his performance of Make 'em Laugh was one of the highlights of my evening. However, Scarlett Strallen steals the show as Kathy Selden. Scarlett's stage presence is amazing. Each time she was on stage I could not take my eyes off her and her vocal talents are enchanting.
Robert Powell, who recently joined the cast as R F Simpson, was good. Katherine Kingsley has become one of my all time favourite comedy actresses, her portrayal of Lina Lamont was insane and had me in stitches many times.
The ensemble who barely leave the stage were also strong. Andrew Wright's choreography is imaginative and anything but predictable. The cast perform so effortlessly, leaving the audience well and truly dazzled. The two splash scenes were outstanding. Audience members sitting in the 'splash zone' seemed to be having a great time and enjoyed getting soaked!
Some scenes dragged on making many people slightly restless. Also a few scenes felt too staged. I loved the fun light-hearted storyline and enjoyed humming along to classic songs by the likes of Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, including Good Morning, Moses Supposes and of course Singin’ in the Rain.
Singin' In The Rain is a lovely musical. Make sure you catch this magical production at London's Palace Theatre!
