Shona Lindsay made her professional debut aged 11 in the title role of Annie. She has played some of the the West End’s best loved roles including Christine in Phantom of the Opera, Kathy Seldon in Singing in the Rain, Sandy in Grease, Milly in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Emma in Jekyll & Hyde. She graced the screens of the nation’s TV sets for 2 years playing Sara Briggs in Crossroads as well as appearing in numerous other series and films. Shona is also no stranger to the recording studio with several cast recordings under her belt including the studio cast album of Grease, and her album Control Yourself.
Your Presence is such a beautiful song, did you enjoy recording it?
I loved it, we had such a fun session. The atmosphere was relaxed and so creative.
How did you become involved with the project?
Gary contacted me on twitter, we struck up a "conversation" and then he sent me a demo and some background on himself and Joan. Also, I was excited to work on new material and with Colin as Musical Director.
Was it fun being back in the studio after recording your debut album Control Yourself?
Yes, I record quite a lot and I always love it. Recording shows every flaw but also allows every nuance to register too. Control Yourself was a great experience but when it's your own album the pressure isn't as great. When you're recording other people's stuff then you want it to be great for them
What makes Your Presence stand out from other Christmas songs?
I think it has a feel of a true "standard" which has been lacking in recent Christmas hits. Whilst it is a musical theatre number it has the warmth and melodic transitions of songs from the glory years of Hollywood too.
You have played some of the most iconic theatre roles – are there any left you still have your eye on?
Yes, I'd love to play Uli or Alara in City Of Angels, Donna in Mamma Mia and one day Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard!
What is your favourite show right now in the West End?
MAMMA MIA!!
What advice would you give to any aspiring performers?
Hard work and perseverance! And learn to develop a thick skin.
Finally, what would you like to say everyone who has supported you throughout your career?
A huge thank you! I've been incredibly lucky and it's because of my family, friends and supporters that my career has continued for as long as it has, so again thank you!!!
