Review: Scrooge at the London Palladium

Scrooge
The London Palladium
Friday 16th November 2012

Based on Charles Dickens’ heart warming story, A Christmas Carol, Scrooge The Musical a timeless classic.  Scrooge is one of those musicals you can take your grandmas and children to and everyone will thoroughly enjoy it.

Having celebrated over 55 years in the entertainment industry, Tommy Steele once again returns to the London Palladium to play Scrooge. He has headlined more performances than any other star in the history of the London Palladium, including Dick Whittington (1969-70), The Tommy Steele Show (1973), Hans Anderson (1974-75 & 1977-78), Singin’ in the Rain (1983-85 & 1989) as well as the 2005-06 run of Scrooge. Tommy owns the stage and shows no sign of slowing down. He hits all the big notes and takes you on each and every step of Scrooge's heart-warming journey.

Other stand out performances came from Roisin Sullivan as the Ghost of Christmas Past. She gave an elegant performance and her voice was stunning. I also enjoyed Barry Howard as Jocob Marley, he provided some very amusing moments.

I was very impressed with the illusions in the show, Paul Kieve has done an outstanding job. Some of the children in the audience watched open mouthed as characters popped out of chairs, vanished through walls and disappeared into thin air. The effects add an extra spark of magic to the show.

I would advice any family to see Scrooge this Christmas. It makes the perfect, festive family treat.
