Yes, Prime Minister
Trafalgar Studios
Performance: Thursday 26th October 2012 (Evening)

Yes, Prime Minister is back in the West End for its third West End run, this time at the Trafalgar Studios. The comedy is by the original BBC writers Antony Jay & Jonathan Lynnthrusts. Many people will be familiar with much loved characters Sir Humphrey Appleby and Jim Hacker who are thrust into the chaos of 21st century coalition politics. With the threat of financial meltdown just hours away, and the only hope of rescue resting on a morally dubious deal with the Foreign Minister of Kumranistan, the stage is set for a riotous comedy of sex, scandal and scheming.
It was refreshing to watch such a relevant, hilarious comedy in such a modern theatre. Yes, Prime Minister makes fun of our current political problems. One of the shows slogan's 'the other political farce on Whitehall' could not be more appropriate.
Robert Daws is outstanding as Jim Hacker, the Prime Minister. His comic timing is sublime. Michael Simkins also gave a stand out performance as Sir Humphrey Appleby. His long speeches were pure genius and left some audience members in endless fits of laughter. Emily Bruni also gave a great performance as Claire Sutton and stood out as the only female in the cast.
As the play progressed I thought it could not get any more ridiculous... but sure enough, it did. One of the things I loved most about Yes, Prime Minister is that there is something for everyone. Different people laughed at different parts. You do not have to have a strong interest in politics to love this show.
Trafalgar Studios 1 is the perfect venue for Yes, Prime Minister. As the audience are so close to the stage it allows the actors to really bounce off the audience. The theatre is quite cosy and makes a nice change from the traditional old West End theatres. Much to my amusement, in the interval one lady wandered onto the stage and sniffed one of the drinks to see if it was actually alcohol.
I would urge anyone who is yet to see Yes, Prime Minister (currently booking until March 2013) to see it. Yes, Prime Minister makes the perfect fun, light hearted, evening out.
