Guildford Fringe Theatre Company announce exciting new play

Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years was welcomed by packed houses recently and now Guildford Fringe Theatre Company will be presenting emerging playwright Tom Well’s debut play “Me, As A Penguin” this December.

The play was first produced by West Yorkshire Playhouse as a part of an initiative to encourage new writing by local writers in the north of England. After an initial production there, it transferred to London’s Arcola Theatre in 2010.

In the writer’s own words the play concerns:

“….a young man from a small seaside town, who goes to stay with his sister and her husband in Hull to try and sample the Hull gay scene. It’s about what happens when you’re outside your comfort zone. Obviously there’s a penguin involved…”

The Artistic Directors of Guildford Fringe Theatre Company, Niall Bailey and Nick Wyschna, are delighted to be producing this play early in the history of their new company.

Speaking recently, Nick said: “Guildford Fringe Theatre Company is all about bringing great theatre to unusual spaces. We believe that in addition to the big spectacles that the West End and bigger regional theatres can offer there’s a place, and also a demand, for theatre in intimate spaces that provoke, excite, entertain and thrill audiences.”

Full cast and creative team details will be announced shortly.
