Michael will be releasing his debut solo album early next year.

Are you looking forward to performing at the Mercury Musical Developments 20th Anniversary Gala this Sunday? Yes, it’s going to be a fantastic evening celebrating 20 years of such a wonderfully supportive venture. I delighted to be a part of it.

Can you give us any clues as to what we can expect to see you perform?
It’s a song from new writer Craig Adams’ musical Therese Raquin. I don’t want to give too much away but the song is incredibly powerful and dramatic. Anyone who knows the book, film or play will know it ends tragically (which is when the song is set).

You recently played James Prince in Soho Cinders at the Soho Theatre, did you enjoy the run?
Soho Cinders was great fun and it was a joy to sing Stiles & Drewe’s beautiful songs night after night. They are such geniuses and the loveliest men!! It was the most pleasurable creative process and I’d do it again tomorrow.

Would you like to see the show open in the West End?
YES! The show deserves a West End run. It only played for 5 weeks at the Soho Theatre and I think (as we sold out) the show needs a bigger venue and a longer run!

What’s next for you?
I’ve just been asked to play the role of Cornelius in Hello Dolly at Leicester Curve over Christmas. It’s a nice career move for me as he’s not the usual romantic lead. He’s a bit of a goof! Also, I’ll be playing opposite the magnificent Janie Dee!

What do you think you would be doing now if you didn’t become an actor?
Who knows?! Probably a photographer or a rock star!

What advice would you give to any aspiring actors?
Get a second job! It’s hard to maintain a consistent run of work and no one wants to work in a bar in between jobs (I’ve been there and done that). I co-run a Musical Theatre Sunday School called West End Masterclass which is incredibly rewarding. We have the most fantastic students and they are going to be the Muscial stars of the future!

What is your favourite show right now in the West End?
I don’t know. There are so many great shows. Matilda, Jersey Boys and Les Mis (the show that first inspired me to get into Musicals) are definitely worth a watch.

Finally, what would you like to say to everyone who has supported you throughout your career?
THANK YOU doesn’t quite cut it as there are no words to describe my gratitude. Without everyone that’s supported me (including my fantastic parents) I wouldn’t be doing what I love for a living.
