Old Vic to stage Daniel Kitson's Tree & Cole Porter's High Society

It has been announced that the Old Vic are staging productions of Tree by Daniel Kitson and Cole Porter's High Society.

Tim Key and Daniel Kitson will star in Tree between 5th and 31st January. Marking the play's London premiere, it will be performed in the round. It’s early evening in the middle of autumn, it’s just starting to get dark and on a quiet residential street a man with a picnic basket, arrives late, at a tree.

Tree was originally written by Kitson in his house during August of 2013, before being re-written, learnt, and rehearsed with Key at Battersea Arts Centre. It was later designed and staged at the Manchester Royal Exchange.

Maria Friedman directs High Society which opens on 14th May (previews from 30th April) and runs until 22nd August 2015. It will also be staged in the round.

High Society is based on The Philadelphia Story and the 1956 MGM film musical starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra. The score features many iconic numbers including ‘True Love’, ‘You’re Sensational’, 'Well, Did You Evah!' and ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’

Maria Friedman said: "To stage High Society in the round at The Old Vic is a hugely exciting project providing the perfect immersive environment for a sparkling musical celebration of wedding day shenanigans. I am really looking forward to transporting audiences into the glamorous heart of this world and hope they enjoy the party!"

Long Island socialite Tracy Lord is planning her lavish summer wedding when her ex-husband appears to try and win her back. His unwelcome arrival threatens to disrupt proceedings. When tabloid reporter Mike Connor arrives to cover the nuptials, he too takes a shine to the bride-to-be. But which of these three suitors will she choose?
