Eric and Little Ern
Vaudeville Theatre

Fans of Morecambe and Wise will adore 'Eric and Little Ern' which has transferred to the West End following a successful run in Edinburgh. While the production celebrates one of Britain's best loved comedy duos, it isn't just a tribute show. The show begins with Ernie in a hospital bed, prior to his death in 1999. He is visited by Eric (who has been dead for fourteen years) and the first act delves into their forty-three year relationship.
Jonty Stephens and Ian Ashpitel both give remarkable performances. Their attention to detail, including certain character traits, is extraordinary. The pair have also created the performance and their chemistry appears very natural. The problem with the first act is that it is very static. It’s very humorous at first but then the piece feels as though it has nowhere to go.
I preferred the second act considerably more as it is performed in performance context. The timeless humour proved popular with the audience, many were left reminiscing. Eric and Little Ern provides ninety minutes of harmless fun and makes the perfect jolly treat for the festive period.
