Following a short one week voting period we are thrilled to announce that Sion Daniel Young (pictured right) has won the West End Frame Award for 'Best Dramatic Performance' for his portrayal of Albert Narracott in the West End production of War Horse.
Sion joined the production at the New London Theatre earlier this year and continues to play the role to great acclaim. Our 'Best Dramatic Performance' Award is a celebration of the most powerful and heart wrenching performances which move audiences night after night in theatreland.
The final result was very close with only two percent separating the top two nominees. GerĂ³nimo Rauch, who recently joined The Phantom of the Opera in the title role, is the first runner-up while Les Miserables' Daniel Koek (Jean Valjean) comes third and The Color Purple's Cynthia Erivo comes fourth, marking the first West End Frame Award nomination for an off-West End production. The Pride's Al Weaver comes fifth.
Sion’s work in theatre includes Titus at the Imaginate Festival, Llwyth (Tribe) for Sherman Theatre Cymru, House of America and The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning for National Theatre Wales and The Welsh Boy at Theatre Royal, Bath. His television credits include Tissues and Issues and Hotel Eddie while his film credits include Private Peaceful, Daisy Chain and The Street.
War Horse is currently celebrating its sixth year on the London stage. Nick Stafford’s adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s book received its world premiere at the National Theatre in October 2007 and has since been seen by over 4 million people worldwide. War Horse is currently booking at the New London Theatre until 27th October 2014.
Unlike other theatre awards, West End Frame only opens voting for one category at a time and combines male and female actors from musicals and plays into the same categories. The final 2013 West End Frame Award will run in December, further information will be announced shortly.
