Cast of Once celebrate Zrinka Cvitešić winning West End Frame Award

Last night (30th August 2013), the West End cast of Once celebrated Zrinka Cvitešić winning the West End Frame Award for 'Best West End Debut'. After the performance the cast gathered on-stage at the Phoenix Theatre to enjoy a glass of champagne (see picture below).

Speaking to West End Frame yesterday, Zrinka said: "One of the main reasons that we are actors in the first place is because of our audience. Audiences who love us, criticise us and guide us. Coming to one of the best theatre cities and stages in the world, from a small country, was a huge and daunting step for me because I had no built-in audience. Nobody knew me. Thank you West End Frame, thank you West End colleagues and friends, and mostly - thank you to the audiences for making me feel that I belong here. One of the first lines my character says is 'Well, it's not even my language, this English!'. All I can say now is 'Well, it looks like it is now...!'."

Based on the much-loved Oscar-winning film, Once is a celebration of love, friendship and music and opened in the West End earlier this year. When an Irish busker and a young Czech mother (played by Zrinka) meet through a shared love of music, their songwriting sparks a deep connection and a tender, longing romance that neither of them could have expected.

At each performance, live on stage, the Company play 10 CF Martin guitars, 2 violins, 1 melodica, 1 cello, 2 mandolins, 1 ukelele, 1 bass guitar, 1 banjo, 2 cajon's, 1 drum kit, 1 piano, 1 harmonica and 1 concertina and on the West End’s only on stage bar, audience members can join the cast for the start of the show and at the interval.

Zrinka Cvitešić stars opposite Declan Bennett in the production. The pair are joined by Valda Aviks (Baruska),Ryan Fletcher (Svec), Aidan Kelly (Billy), Gareth O’Connor (Eamon),Michael O’Connor (Da), Miria Parvin (ex-girlfriend), Jos Slovick (Andre),Flora Spencer-Longhurst (Reza), Jez Unwin (Bank Manager) and Gabriel Vick (Emcee). Alternating the role of Girl’s young daughter Ivanka will be Mia-Jai Bryan, Pacha Anna Green, Honey Joyce and Nancy Ann Jeans.
