Review: Mile High The Musical at the Lost Theatre

"It’s as if a bit of the Mediterranean sun and sea (and the other one) has been transported to London especially to shed new light on the thrills of international travel, package holidays and modern gender politics."

I am not quite sure what to make of Mile High, the show is slightly bizarre. Obviously the show is meant to be a feel good musical but it is such a mess. The characters in Mile High are all very shallow, meaning I struggled to care.

The musical numbers are performed with pre-recorded backing tracks which sound fairly robotic. There are far too many songs, they don't flow and often feel far too forced. Vocals are not consistently strong; however there are a few shimmers of talent among the cast whose enthusiasm I cannot fault.

At moments the execution of the choreography was shocking and there was little attention to detail, however I am aware I saw the first performance so this could improve throughout the run. Also some of the choreography was not appropriate for the Lost Theatre as the cast looked squashed on the stage.

During the first act most cast sang their solo numbers into a hand held microphone. This meant the cast had to find discreet ways to bring the 'mic of doom' on stage. Again this looked messy and unprofessional, especially as the microphone was unnecessary as the cast could be heard perfectly fine without it.

The idea behind Mile High is OK and has potential, but this production is nothing but chaotic, sloppy and awkward.
