Who is going to be the next Elphaba? West End Frame takes a look at the rumors...

Over the last few weeks speculation has begun over who should be the next lady to play Elphaba in the London production of Wicked. I would like to point out that it has not yet been announced whether or not Rachel Tucker, who is currently playing the role, will be leaving at the next cast change.

The speculation that Rachel would be leaving began after an interview Rachel did for the Irish Times was published online. This is what was printed:

Two years on, Tucker is unlikely to commit to another contract once her current one expires: “No, I don’t think so, only because . . .” she says, before halting. “The role is immense, it is amazing, but actually, no matter how much effort and respect that you have for a character, there is a sell-by date, I believe and I have witnessed it too often on stage. I started my third contract in December and I finish it in October.

It has also been suggested that Rachel said to somebody that she 'may be green again soon'. This could suggest a few things such as she could be transferring to the Broadway production of Wicked, playing Elphaba in a rumoured Wicked UK tour or even be joining the cast of Shrek The Musical (which I think is unlikely).

Anyway, IF she is leaving then these are the actresses who have apparently been seen auditioning and/or have been strongly linked with the role:
(This list appears in alphabetical order)
·         Sabrina Aloeuche
·         Zoe Birkett
·         Amanda Coutts,
·         Nikki Davis-Jones
·         Siobhan Dillon
·         Eden Espinosa
·         Rachel John
·         Sophia Ragavelas
·         Lauren Samuels

Who would you like to see play Elphaba? Any names who we didn't mention? Let us know!
