Kids Week has sold 74,187 tickets in less than a month, beating its total 2011 sales figures and breaking all the records in its fifteen-year history. This means that Kids Week has been completely unaffected by the Olympic Games and proves that thousands of families are preparing to travel to Theatreland during the games - hooray!
Julian Bird, Chief Executive of the Society of London Theatre said: “This is an incredible achievement for Kids Week and a sign that families are eager to travel to London this August to see a show. Every single West End theatre is programmed over the summer and we look forward to welcoming thousands of excited families to see the huge variety of shows on offer.”
Run by the Society of London Theatre and supported by Ticketmaster, Kids Week is all about encouraging young people to experience the magic of live theatre. In 2012, Kids Week lasts for the whole of August as part of the London 2012 Festival, the spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration running from 21 June until 9 September 2012 bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.
During Kids Week (1-31 August) a child aged 16 or under can go free to any participating show when accompanied by an adult paying full price. Up to two extra children’s tickets can be purchased at half price. Kids Week also has a fantastic range of free activities and events including cast Q&As, backstage tours and song and dance workshops.
Plenty more tickets are still available for shows including Billy Elliot the Musical, The Wizard Of Oz and Shrek The Musical, and for activities including a Chariots Of Fire acting workshop, the chance to explore behind the scenes of Spamalot and a Ragtime movement workshop at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
