We Will Rock You
Dominion Theatre
Performance: Wednesday 15th August 2012 (matinee)

I love We Will Rock You because it breaks all the rules of a stereotypical musical. My favourite thing about the show is the fact that it attracts a different type of audience member who wouldn't normally go to the theatre. You have to take We Will Rock You for what it is, it isn't Shakespeare but it is great fun.
I was delighted to once again see Lauren Varnham play Scaramouche. You would not know she is an understudy. Her stage presence is amazing and her voice sent shivers down my spine. Her rendition of 'Somebody To Love' was stunning. I love how she holds back sometimes showing the beautiful, soft side of her voice and the vulnerable side of Scaramouche. She was also hilarious and acted the role perfectly. Lauren is incredibly talented and definitely one to watch!
Jeremy Taylor makes a good Galileo. It was refreshing to see somebody play the part slightly differently. He has a great voice and good chemistry with all the cast.
Brenda Edwards - wow. She was mind blowing as Killer Queen. Her vocal stamina must be amazing to do the show 8 times a week! She was also hilarious and incredibly scary. She had great chemistry with Alasdair Harvey who played a very camp Khashoggi. I thought Alasdair gave a good performance but maybe got a bit too carried away.
Rachel John is a very inspirational performer. She was fantastic as Meat. The moment where she referenced Freddie Mercury was touching and when she sung 'No-One But You' she seemed to put a spell on the audience with her soulful voice.
The rest of the cast were all strong. The show creates an electric energy and leaves you buzzing. I would recommend this show to families, Queen fans and to people who want to see some light hearted theatre and have a fun night out!
