Reviewing the original London cast recoding of Top Hat The Musical has been an interesting experience for me as I haven't seen the show... yet and I have not seen the film. After one listen I was not convinced however over the last week it has grown on me. Sometimes this can be the case with music, after one listen the music is forgettable but after a few listens you suddenly realise you are whistling the songs while doing the washing up. I was also surprised that I knew quite a few of the songs already.
'Puttin' On the Ritz', 'I'm Putting All My Eggs in One Basket' and 'Let's Face the Music and Dance' were three of my favourite tracks. There is a magical energy about this album and it left me wanting to see the show.
I was greatly impressed with Tom Chambers voice, he has a distinctive tone which I love and would like to hear more of in the future. Summer Strallen's voice is also beautiful and here solo songs 'You're Easy to Dance With', 'Wild About You' and 'Better Luck Next Time' are all memorising. I also love how the chemistry between Tom Chambers and
Summer Strallen comes across on the album. Ricardo Afonso has an incredible voice and leaves you wanting more!
This album is a must have for theatre fans!
