So finally, Andrew Lloyd Webber's intense search to find an actor to play Jesus in the upcoming arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar is over! Ben Forster (pictured above) was crowned the winner in last nights grand final.
I have to say when Ben won I felt very relieved as I think he will do the role justice. I found it baffling how Rory got to the final two as I felt each time he performed he showed little or no acting ability which is a crucial part of playing Jesus! Jesus is a challenging role and in order to have any impact on the audience, the person playing him has to be a very strong actor. I felt Rory's eyes always empty. If he won the part of Jesus it could have been disastrous. Don't get me wrong his voice is incredible, I think he was the most consistent on the show. I don't know why they didn't test the contestants acting ability at all on the show, it just all seemed to be about singing songs - some that were even irrelevant to the role of Jesus (e.g. the Katy Perry song Rodger had to sing)! I felt like they just wanted to make an X Factor style show.
Dawn French was an amazing judge. I felt she always got the balance between comedy and serious comments spot on. When she made serious comments I always felt she knew exactly what she was talking about. I also thought Amanda Holden didn't do a bad job at presenting seeing as she has no presenting experience!
I struggled to listen to Jason Donovan's criticism. Personally I would have loved to see him try and sing one of Jesus' songs. I would have much have preferred to see somebody who knew what they were talking about judge the show! How about Alfie Boe for example? Or Kerry Ellis? These are people who have a lot of experience and I would respect their criticism. In fact I would have loved to have seen more of Donna the acting coach! She would have made a fabulous judge!
Mel C was an OK judge until she decided to perform. If she was performing a pop song I would have said it was an incredible live performance! However, it was not. 'I Don't Know How To Love Him' is a heartbreaking song from Jesus Christ Superstar. Mel C seemed to struggle with the low notes so just made them breathy which didn't really sound suitable for a Musical Theatre performance. How Andrew Lloyd Webber can criticise an incredible vocalist like Nathan James and then praise Mel C is just beyond me. I don't think her performance was terrible, I just found it frustrating as I know that there are lots of ladies in the West End who could have performed the song 100 times better!
And that brings me onto Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber! I think he is an incredible man who obviously knows what he is talking about! I always looked forward to his comments as he is unpredictable and extremely hilarious! Having said that I don't know how he could sit there and say that there was a lack of leading men in the West End. What a load of utter RUBBISH!
I think the Jesus Christ Superstar tour will definitely be a sell out but will it be a success? We'll have to wait to read the reviews...

Agree totally - Ben was the right choice. He will be great. They should have had acting auditions too - although Rory has a pleasant voice, his acting needs improvement. I had been looking forward to seeing Mel perform, but was disappointed.
